Grenadiers @ Littlecote

The idea of first arranging a grand re-union at Littlecote House was the brainchild of Colin Knight.

For many years he had examined the possibilities of arranging such a venture. However to produce an event of a high caliber takes a lot of time, research and in the end a substantial financial commitment as the complete hotel was taken on a contract basis.

However in 2002 the plunge was taken and the first re-union organised. Fortunately it was a sell out and the feed back afterwards was "When is the next one?"

2004 saw the second visit, again every room taken with everyone appearing very well satisfied. On this occasion John Southern (Master Stitch) came on board as the assistant coordinator.

After consultation, Colin and John decided that together they would arrange a further event for 2006, to coincide with Regimental Remembrance Day and the 350th Celebration Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Again a full house.

In between, group visits have been made to Cricket St. Thomas and Thoresby Hall for four nights. On the 1st October a further group visit for a one night special, again at Littlecote House.

The object of getting Grenadiers and their friends together is to enhance the Association, provide pleasure and recreation, rekindle and make new friendships. Furthermore it fosters our relationship with the Regiment, keeps the name of the Regiment to the fore and hopefully encourage young men not only to consider joining the Regiment but on release joining and keeping an interest in the Association. Associate and Honorary members are more than welcome to register their interest with us.

With the advent of electronic mail the time consuming and costly task of keeping in touch with members has been made simpler and more cost effective. The list of members with this facility is constantly growing.

For the future, it is intended to organise future re-unions, where a complete venue is taken over for our exclusive use, as in the previous re-unions. Entertainment etc being arranged to suit the tastes of the membership.

Due to the growing interest being shown in these types of gatherings, ideas are being considered and when finalised will be announced by individual e-mails and a posting on this web site.
